Tag & Beacon (DSRC)
Tag and beacon (DSRC) based charging systems represent are the most widely deployed method of road user charging deployed today, arising from the development of the continental toll plaza to support free-flow charging. DSRC also has applications for city based deployments, providing for cordon and urban charge point (UCP) charging schemes, in addition to environmental emission based traffic management schemes. Building Capital brings experience from working with some of the world leaders in respect of the development, production and operation of national and city DSRC schemes.
As DSRC is frequently perceived as the directly competing technology to GPS for future road charging deployments, Building Capital can provide an unbiased and technologically agnostic analysis of the relative merits of each technology for a particular charging application, their impact on the scheme design, and make a detailed comparison of the infrastructure and operating costs to identify the optimum value for money solution.
Building Capital has also developed industry leading enhancements to the enforcement process in instances where GPS and DSRC are simultaneously deployed, and has authored a number of patents in this area. Our expertise is invaluable in ensuring both main-user and occasional user schemes are cost effective to operate, evidentially enforceable, and not a hindrance to the driving public.
